in Kenya's Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs)
Sauti Moja Marsabit is a Community-Based Organization (CBO) founded in 2010. We work in Marsabit County, northern Kenya to strengthen sustainable livelihoods, climate resilience and peaceful coexistence among pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities.
At the heart of our work are two flagship initiatives that restore dignity, rebuild livelihoods and unite communities across Marsabit County.

Restoring dignity and livelihoods
Sauti Moja's flagship 1000+ Widows Project delivers a holistic model of empowerment for widows affected by conflict, displacement and chronic poverty. Combining psychosocial support, livelihood asset transfer (including livestock), financial inclusion through savings groups and community reintegration, the initiative restores dignity while rebuilding economic independence.
By transforming widows into active economic agents and community leaders, the project strengthens household resilience, promotes social cohesion and contributes to long-term peace across fragile pastoral contexts.
This initiative focuses on the Pass-on Model that promotes passing on the first offspring of a gift animal to a widow. The widows are drawn from neighboring communities with a history of resource-based inter-ethnic conflict.
A gift of livestock is passed from one side of the community to the other and therefore traditional enemies become friends and good neighbors.

Sauti Moja Marsabit is a Community-Based Organization (CBO) founded in 2010, advancing resilience in Marsabit County, northern Kenya through integrated, locally driven solutions. We combine technical programming, community engagement and systems thinking to address structural vulnerabilities in dryland economies.
To empower pastoralist and livestock-dependent communities through sustainable development initiatives, education, advocacy and innovative solutions that enhance their resilience, protect their cultural heritage and improve their socio-economic well-being.
A resilient and thriving pastoralist and livestock-dependent community empowered with sustainable livelihoods, equitable opportunities and a voice in decision-making for a prosperous future.
